Ford Wheel Alignment Service near Granite City, IL: Signs, Benefits & Tire Protection
Granite City drivers log plenty of miles on Madison County streets and the I-64 corridor, and the tires carry every one of them. When the wheels fall out of alignment, that wear speeds up and turns uneven. Auffenberg Ford North's service team performs wheel alignments on Ford cars, trucks and SUVs.

Ford Wheel Alignment Service near Granite City, IL
V
Alignment work for Granite City drivers is handled by the Auffenberg Ford North service team in O'Fallon. Ford recommends having alignment checked annually, and its owner's manuals say misalignment in the front or the rear can cause uneven and rapid treadwear that should be corrected by an authorized dealer. Mention any pulling or steering changes when you book.
Newer Fords may be covered. Ford's Warranty Guide states that Ford will replace or adjust certain maintenance items when necessary, free of charge during a limited period, and that wheel alignments and tire balancing will be provided during the first 12 months or 12,000 miles in service, whichever occurs first. Incomplete vehicles such as chassis cabs are excluded after upfit, so ask whether your Ford qualifies.

Signs Your Ford Needs an Alignment
V
Ford lists five signs that a vehicle may need an alignment: pulling to one side while driving straight, vibration in the steering wheel, uneven tread wear on the tires, an off-centered steering wheel and squealing while turning. You do not need all five. Any one of them is reason to schedule a check before the tires wear further.
A single impact can be enough. Ford's owner's manuals note that a bad jolt from hitting a curb or pothole can cause the front end to become misaligned or damage the tires, so pay attention to how the steering feels after a hard hit on a city street or a highway ramp. If the steering wheel no longer sits straight afterward, book a check.

Benefits of a Proper Alignment
V
Ford sums up the payoff in a single line: correct alignment helps with your tire life, tire performance and gas mileage. Ford does not attach a mileage percentage to alignment, so think of it first as tire protection, with the efficiency benefit as a bonus on top of longer-lasting tread.
New tires are the other time to check, and Ford says alignment should be looked at whenever you buy them. Auffenberg Ford North sells tires from 17 name brands through its Tire Finder. Ford's Low Price Tire Guarantee applies to dealer-installed tires from the major brands Ford lists, so ask your service advisor for the current terms before you buy.

Protecting Your Tires: Rotation, Pressure and Tire Age
V
Rotation and pressure work hand in hand with alignment. Ford's guidance is to rotate the tires at each maintenance visit, or on the schedule in your owner's manual, and uneven wear means the alignment should be checked by an authorized dealer before the rotation. Ford also wants tire pressure checked at least monthly and any time the temperature shifts sharply, and a tire pressure monitoring system is no substitute for a gauge check.
Tread depth is not the only clock. Ford's owner's manuals say tires should generally be replaced after six years regardless of tread wear, sooner with frequent heavy loads, and the spare is due at six years even if it has never been used. Ford also advises an inspection before your next scheduled visit if tread wears below 3/32 inch or you notice bulges, blisters, cuts or punctures.
